Burnout can affect us all.

From the CEO to the stay-at-home mum, the pressures of a demanding career, dealing with family life and pressure put on us by others can leave you feeling exhausted and emotionally drained.

What are the symptoms of Burnout?

Burnout can make you feel overwhelmed and as a result, productivity decreases, emptiness sets in and everyday life can simply become too much to cope with.

It is easy to ignore the signs of burnout until it is too late, either because you don’t recognise the symptoms or because you don’t want to take a break.

We are all guilty of working long hours to meet deadlines or doing household chores long into the night to try and get on top of things.

Eventually this constant urge to be productive takes its toll on your mental and physical health and within time the feeling of being burned out sets in.

What are some warning signs of Burnout?

Lack of energy
Exhaustion
Frequent fatigue
Reduced performance
Sleep problems
Concentration and memory problems
Inability to make decisions
Reduced initiative and imagination
More frequent colds
Muscle tension or back pain
Respiratory problems
Chest tightness
Dizziness or headache
Gastrointestinal complaints
Headache
Sexual problems
Burnout does not happen overnight, but instead builds up gradually over time.

If not addressed early enough, it can take months and even years to get back to normal.

It is vital to watch for the signs of burnout, as the sooner they are addressed, the easier it will be to recover.
