"I offer a warm, safe, and accepting space in which you can bring whatever feels most important to you."
I am a Humanistic Person-Centred Therapist with 16 years of experience working with adults, children, and families. My systemic training includes using cognitive behavioural therapy and psycho-education to help identify unhelpful patterns of behaviour and learn new ways of thinking. I have a genuine positive regard for others and believe my role is to support the development and personal growth of others.
Having worked in banking for 15 years early on in my working life, during which time I also volunteered at a charity for disadvantaged women and girls, I made the decision to retain as a counsellor. I have never looked back and I can genuinely say that I love what I do.
Since qualifying as a therapist in 2000, I have worked for several organisations including CAMHS (NHS), Childline and various other charities. I also spent 2 years working with children in Zurich, Switzerland.
I specialise in working with young people and adults who have experienced trauma and abuse and can help you if you are experiencing any of the following:
· domestic violence
· disordered eating
· anger management
· work and study related stress/burnout
· family and relationships
I also have extensive experience supporting staff with personal and professional development.
I offer a warm, safe, and accepting space in which you can bring whatever feels most important to you.
I believe in a healthy body healthy mind, and I enjoy walking in the Yorkshire countryside with my husband and two dogs.
I look forward to working with you and helping you make the changes you seek in your life.

“Thank you for putting me in touch with Avril at the beginning of this year. My mental health was in a bad way, and I wasn’t coping well particularly through and post lockdown. Speaking with Avril has really changed my life around and made me accept things I never thought I would. I didn’t believer I could be helped and had lost a lot of hope;
Avril helped me to see that this wasn’t necessarily the case and that I could move on with my life while managing negative feelings positively. Thank you for connecting me with Avril and thank you Avril for being fantastically accommodating and for your expertise and support.”
